Item sources, vendors and the market
Where items come from, buying from vendors, and selling on the market board.
| Tool | What it does | Module |
|---|---|---|
get_item_sources | Where an item comes from: crafting, vendors, currency exchanges, gathering nodes, drops, duties, FATEs, ventures, voyages, desynthesis and more, from FFXIV Teamcraft's data, with the wiki page if you like | Online lookups |
find_vendors | NPCs that sell an item, with zone and map position, from the Item Vendor Location plugin | Item Vendor Location |
buy_item | Gets you to a vendor, opens its shop (gil shops, exchanges and the scrip exchanges with several pages) and buys in batches of up to 99. Without Item Vendor Location, it asks you to open a shop that sells the item, then buys from it. | Market & purchases |
request_spending_approval | Asks you once in the game to approve spending up to an amount of one currency, for example for a farming job | Market & purchases |
list_approvals / revoke_approval | Your standing approvals with what is spent and left; revokes one | Market & purchases |
get_market_prices | Current listings, recent sales, averages and sales per day from universalis.app, for your world, data center or region | Online lookups |
get_market_listings | Your retainers' listings from the cache, flagged when someone is cheaper | Market & purchases |
get_sales | Sale notices the game showed while XIV MCP was running (item, quantity, gil, time) | Market & purchases |
get_sale_history | A retainer's last 20 sales (item, quantity, price, buyer, date), at the bell | Market & purchases |
buy_from_market_board | Walks to a market board in the current zone, reads the listings and buys the cheapest ones until the quantity is reached, never above your price per item. Above your gil limit it asks first, or uses a standing approval. | Market & purchases |
sell_item | Puts a stack up for sale, just below the cheapest offer, unless you give a price | Market & purchases |
sell_to_vendor | Sells items from your bags to a merchant for gil, while its shop is open: whole stacks, all of an item, at most a quantity, or all but what you keep | Market & purchases |
reprice_listings | Undercuts competing listings where someone else is cheaper. Big cuts are skipped and reported; a dry run only reports. | Market & purchases |
Online lookups is denied by default, because those tools send requests to websites. Allow it in /xivmcp → Modules to get item sources and market prices.
Buying
buy_item picks the vendor unless you name one: gil vendors first, then those in a city (quick to reach by aetheryte), then those in the zone you are in.
- Gil shops buy directly, within the gil limit you can set for Market & purchases.
- Any other currency (scrips, tomestones, seals) shows an approval window in the game while the shop is open, unless you gave a standing approval. See Approvals.
Selling and undercutting
Undercuts follow Penny Pincher's settings when it is installed (amount, rounding, minimum, HQ, never your own retainers), and are 1 gil otherwise. A price below half the recent Universalis average is refused, unless you allow it. You can also give a minimum price per item: an undercut below it is skipped, and it keeps prices safe while Universalis doesn't answer (then nothing is listed without a minimum, a price or your permission).
Selling to a merchant
sell_to_vendor sells to an NPC merchant, as the inventory's Sell does while a shop is open. Open a merchant's shop first. It sells whole stacks, the smallest first, so the big stacks are what you keep. Merchants pay little, often 1 to 10 gil each, so check the market board first. Items merchants do not buy are left alone, and what you sold stays in the shop's buyback tab until you close the shop.
