Overlay and screenshots
See what your assistant is doing right now, and let it look at your screen or open XIV MCP's window for you.
The activity overlay
While your assistant calls a tool or a background job runs, a small window on your screen shows it. It appears only while something runs, and closes a few seconds after. Its settings are in /xivmcp → Overlay.
- Show preview shows the overlay with sample content, so you can drag it where you want it. Reset position moves it back to the left of the screen.
- Layout: Full shows a card per job with its progress bar, the steps around the current one (the last done, the current one with its progress, the next), and each tool call with what it does. Minimal shows one line per job or call.
- A job's steps: click a job's name to see all its steps (up to twelve around the current one on long jobs), with what each does and how long it took; click again to fold them. The list button next to pause and cancel opens the job in
/xivmcp→ Jobs, with every step, its results and the log. - Size and Background change the size of the text and how opaque the background is.
- Lock position keeps it from being dragged. Click-through lets clicks pass through it to the game; it can then not be moved, and its buttons and job names do not take clicks.
- Pause and cancel buttons let you pause, resume or cancel a job on the overlay itself. Cancel asks for a second click.
- Content: show tool calls, background jobs, or both. Calls appear only once they have run a moment (400 ms by default), so quick reads do not make the overlay flicker. Finished items stay for a few seconds, and at most four are shown; the rest are counted.
The switch at the top turns the overlay off entirely.
Screenshots
take_screenshot lets your assistant see what you see: the whole game window with your plugin windows, only the XIV MCP window, or only the overlay. It belongs to the Screen module, which is set to Ask, so every screenshot waits for your approval.
Screenshots show everything on screen
Chat, tells, your character's name and other players' names can be in a screenshot, and the screenshot goes to your AI app and its model like any other tool result. Close what you do not want to share before you approve, or set Screen to Deny.
Showing XIV MCP's window
show_xivmcp_window opens /xivmcp on a tab, so your assistant can show you something there: a background job, a third-party plugin's permissions, the modules or the overlay settings. It only opens the window; nothing in it is changed. It belongs to Game & navigation changes.
